Makeup Overhaul

I'm wondering how many other women suffer from this disorder? Is anyone else a makeup "hoarder?"
Ok, well I am. I might have to blame this partially on Leslie over at Bare Minerals, with her mineral makeup that can last practically forever. I had gotten into the habit of never throwing anything out. Unfortunately, Bare Minerals doesn't do it for me anymore. I've graduated to IT Cosmetics' line, so it was time to overhaul my makeup cart.
This was all brought about because of an itch I got to try out blue eyeshadow, which led to an overhaul of my eyeshadow drawer
So now here we are. It's probably good that these events came to pass, everything is orderly, the stuff I use most is easily accessible & my impulse purchases in Walmart's makeup aisle have been curtailed. Also, I did end up finding a great blue pallet from Revlon's CustomEyes; the greyer leaning smoky blue one.

HUGE Makeup Don't!

I'm not going to post any pics with this post as the following events that I'm about to record for your edification, are ones that I want to forget & never, ever repeat again! Well, that was a bit dramatic but have you ever tried a new look, or thought to see if doing things in a different order would be a good idea? I will admit that I was intrigued by the Wayne Goss technique of applying powder, then liquid foundation. So you can see how this happened then.
The order that I apply my sunscreen moisturizer ( Cerave spf 30) & makeup primer had been bothering me for a while. The sunscreen (moisturizer) was going on, then the primer. Was this removing my moisturizer's sunscreening capabilities?  This question was beginning to really weigh on my mind. It had occurred to me that I should try applying my primer before the spf, to prevent any loss of sun protection. Actually I thought about it for a week before I proceeded. Yesterday was the day. I broke my routine, I applied the primer after my serum, then I put the Cerave spf 30 over the top. My makeup went on just fine. Everything I was expecting from the primer was there as per usual. The day went on as normal....then I started to feel the breakthrough oil. I do not have oily skin. I used to have normal to combination skin, which has changed into normal to dry skin as my 30s progress, but my skin hasn't ever been oily. Well, this was my first experience of having to hit up Starbucks, for their napkins, to blot the excess sebum off of my greasy mug. I had attempted to powder with IT Cosmetics HD Micro powder in the car, but that was like trying to plug the whole in the dam with bubblegum. When I checked my makeup I was in shock. My normally trustworthy IT Cosmetics powder foundation had oxidized to a shade of cheap-drugstore-foundation-orange! Every pore & line (I hadn't previously known existed) was emphasized. I realize that this is because the primer normally seals in all the benefits from the moisturizer & evens the texture of your skin. When I reversed the order I was sealing OUT my moisturizer & creating a greasy mess sitting on my face that my foundation couldn't deal with. The headline to this story is to please be innovative on a day in. I was walking around town doing my errands all while rocking this horrible makeup don't!
I'm not Wayne Goss, I know that now. His reversal of powder & liquid foundation was innovative & inspiring, but I think he would be horrified if he knew that he had inspired yesterday's hot makeup mess.

Sale News & IT Cosmetics Updated Reviews

It is Labor Day weekend......and bye bye summer!!! :'(   Just kidding. I'm actually kind of relieved that summer is over. With all the changes that me & my family have experienced this year, the summer just flew by, really. To follow up with the All Love Potion Releases testing; the variants I ended up going full bottle on were: Love Potion: Flutterby, Love Potion: Incandescence, & Love Potion: Rouge. The runners-up were Love Potion: Ceremony, Love Potion: Blue, & Love Potion: Tropique, but that doesn't mean that I won't possess them in the future. If you forced me to pick my absolute favorite for the collection, it would have to be Incandescence.
What can I say? The tangy gourmand notes in this one smell so delicious I get tempted to lick my arm when I'm wearing it, but since I'm smelling delicious cake all day I really don't feel like having any. Plus people are just NICE to me when I smell like this, just REALLY super helpful/friendly/generally pleasant to be around.
In more Love Potion Perfumerie news they put out an extensive one note collection; titled Sugared Layerables. Which is actually a revamped re-release of a discontinued line. I like what they decided to do for their label art, which was to include their forum community on the labels. Here's mine
(Which is a picture from about 20 lbs ago, lol) Anyway, Mara does a wonderful job on the photoshop :)
So far I've acquired Sugared Strawberry, which is a true Strawberry scent, but think along the lines of strawberry preserves. I, of course, need to get my hands on a bottle of Sugared Lotus, & Sugared Grapefruit. Also there's a huge Buy Some Get Some Free sale going on:  http://www.lovepotionperfume.com/
Now, let's talk about IT Cosmetics. I have a love/hate relationship with this cosmetics line, but lately I find that a couple drawers in my 7 drawer cart of makeup & hair are being slowly, but surely taken over by products from this line. I think it's because their bronzers & highlighters just blend so easily & end up looking so natural. Plus they make these really great, & expensive, brushes that they just give away in their value kits on shopping channels. I still don't recommend their mascara, but they have upped their game with their cream-gel liners. I use them on my waterline & they don't budge. My Smashbox gel liner doesn't budge either, but IT Cosmetics makes a creamier, i.e. easier to apply version & you get twice the amount of product for the same price.
I also took a picture of the bronzer with my flash on to show that there's absolutely 0% percent shimmer to this product. It's 100% percent matte, blends easily, & manages to have a satin finish. I have no idea how they do that; a matte, yet satin finish. Maybe they're wizards? IT Cosmetics is priced at the higher end, but they do offer free shipping over $25 on their site https://www.itcosmetics.com/

News

Greeting all! I don't have any reviews to focus on today. I do have a little bit of news though. I've decided to get back into reading tarot cards. I don't foresee (haha) myself doing it professionally, but I'm working on getting a business going, selling spiritual supplies, & I was thinking that I could do Tarot readings with purchase. It has been quite a few years ('07) since I had a deck, but it wasn't a classic Raider Waite deck. I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm just not into all these fancy variations of the Tarot these days. I prefer the classic imaging the best, thanks! Anyway, that is all for now. ~Blessings, B~

Finally!!!

I was in WalMart grocery shopping; so of course I had to pop over to the cosmetics aisle & see if there were any new must have items. Of course, what do I see??? Maybeline's dupe for the UD Naked eyeshadow pallette: The Nudes pallette.
At my local WalMart it's retailing for $9.98. It caught my eye due to the sleek packaging & the fact that I've been looking for a reasonably priced UD Naked pallette dupe for quite some time now. I know Nyx has a few options, but honestly I wasn't tempted to spend any money with them because the quality of their eyeshadows can be iffy. Actually, I feel that way about a lot of Nyx products. I think Nyx spends more money on packaging then content. Back to Maybelline; I love Maybelline's eyeshadows, I wear them way more then my high end stuff. On a daily basis I usually reach for my Expert Wear Designer Chocolates quad as it's a universally flattering, neutral pallette of purple leaning browns. Granted they're not as pigmented as UD. Unless you use a primer, but when you do use a primer with them, you can get up to 24 hours of wear out of them. I swatched each one of the eyeshadows & the lighter matte shades seemed a bit chalky & not very pigmented, but I have that problem with Nyx's pale matte shades as well.
I'm not going to list the colors, because I'm not this kind of blog. I will just say that I think The Nudes pallette is going to knock Designer Chocolates out of my eyeshadow top spot. ~Blessings, Beccah~

Getting The Most Out of My "Condition" Oils.

It is definitely long past time for me to post again! Summers are always busy though, even if it doesn't look or feel that way on the surface. One doesn't realize how much of a break those 8 hours in the school day afford one, until summer comes along. :) I STILL need to finish up testing the all Love Potion collection, & now we're into the July collection & eagerly waiting on August's Sugared Layerables collection, but more on that in another post.

Since I'm poor ( for the moment) I decided to split some bottles with a couple different friends & we cast our lot together in some orders for Conjured Cardea's recent free shipping sale. I'm eagerly awaiting the oils to blog some more about her, because the longer I have them in my collection, the more I get out of them. CC's oils are on my mind because the bottle of  9 Indian Fruit that I wear pretty much daily has developed a habit of loosening it's top. It's a little odd because I tighten it up, even if I'm just walking past it on the shelf, but never the less every time I reach for that bottle the lid will be loose again, hmm. Anyway, I've developed my own tricks fro getting more use out of my oils, whether they be Conjured Cardea's or Lucky Mojo's.
Let's talk about the terms "dressing" & "anointing." I'm sure if any of my readers are Catholic or Greek Orthodox you'll be familiar with anointing oils. Applying oils to yourself or anyone else with the intent of prayer & blessing is what this term boils down to. Hoodoo condition oils are mostly skin safe (I wouldn't anoint myself with Fiery Wall of Protection, it's spicy) & they're versatile for anointing or dressing. "Dressing" something is to apply a powder or an oil to an inanimate object like a candle or a letter, much in the same way that we anoint people. The nice thing about Hoodoo is that it's budget friendly, but I keep seeing recommendations to purchase sachet powders, made to people who might not have the time nor the budget to go back & order the sachet powders that match their oils. Listen, sachet powders & oils ARE interchangeable & you can use your oil to dress papers: I will tell you how.
It's really quite simple to use your oils to dress papers without staining the papers. All you have to do is first apply a very small amount of oil to yourself on your wrists/forearms/backs of hands, kind of like you would do with perfume, & rub it in REALLY good. When the oil is good & absorbed into your skin, THEN rub your anointed parts on the papers with your intentions/prayers or what have you. Now, I wouldn't jump into this technique with a job application (unless you've picked up a spare) or important paperwork, maybe get the hang of it with a note to a friend or a love interest first. Another thing I will do is add a drop or two of my condition oil of choice (let's say Look Me Over) to maybe a 5 ml sprayer of perfume that I have in my purse. (I don't wear much commercial scent these days, so my perfume atomizer lids screw off fairly easily.) This way you get a nice refresh of intent without having to take your bottles in your purse, & risk losing or breaking your bottles with the labels on them. Another thing is, I am NOT one to try dropping my oils out of the bottles, that is a good way to accidentally get a lot more than what you need, or to spill it altogether. I use a small glass bottle with a dropper (think like for a skin serum sample), keep it filled with 90% rubbing alcohol & I use that to dispense my oils for whatever purpose I have in mind. It's simple & you don't risk getting little bits of the oils mixed in with your other bottles of oil while you're busy working. This will be all for now, but I do wish that I could at least make drafts in Blogger offline. I think I would get way more writing done. Oh well, I guess that's what Office Word is for!

11 Days of Perfume

Day 3:
Love Potion Rouge is a sweeter, sheerer version of the famous Love Potion Red. LP Red is more of incense-type, patchouli forward scent on my skin. LP Rouge goes to a lovely, sweet, foodie-cinnamon fragrance for me. The best way I can describe it is "sexy Red Hots."

Day 4:

I'll be honest, I'm not usually much of a fan of green tea notes. The magic happens when it's added with honey to my favorite perfume, of course. I smell it, but the Love Potion base shines through & the fragrance turns into a sexy type of zen for me. I find that I keep going back for another sniff, this variant is calming, & really addictive!

Let The Good Times Roll!

I don't have much going on right now in the social arena. I really had no idea divorce would put such a damper on my social life, lol! I do look forward to spending time with my kids & testing out my Love Potion Magickal Perfumerie monthly samplers, though. This month of all Love Potion variants is particularly exciting because I've been collecting the variants since '09. I've decided to test each one everyday, so this should occupy me for about a week & a half.
Day One:
With notes of leather, tobacco, cedar, & maple, LP Blue is an androgynous foodie type of scent. Something about the leather & cedar combination kept making me thing there was frankincense in there somewhere, but after it calmed down the fragrance vaguely reminded of Unforgivable for men. Probably the blue sugar note in it.

Day Two:

I'm on my second scent from the collection today & it doesn't disappoint. This is the fragrance embodiment of a delicious caramel latte. This is also nice for me because I can't really drink coffee, but I do enjoy the scent.

The all Love Potion collection for June is now live.

And.....we're live over at Lovepotionperfume.com!!! Well, I was way off on my guess of Terra Mater, but it looks spectacular, none the less. I'm really loving this blurb of LPMP's mission statement & presentation of the June collection:
"Love Potion® Magickal Perfumerie is an artisan fragrance house founded on a perfume which is both an instant classic and an enduring favorite…the one and only Love Potion®. Through the power of scent with intent, our flagship fragrance has granted its wearers an abundance of affection in addition to smelling fabulous! Since introducing our first variant in 1989 - Love Potion®: Red – we have devoted our time and talents to creating numerous versions of this delicious recipe according to seasonal observances, celebrations, and scented interpretations of colors, using varied ingredients for the blending of our signature base along with complementary notes according to the applicable concept. We now present an entire month of Love Potion®: eleven Limited Edition variants for any mood or occasion. The labels for this collection are in keeping with our theme of Belle Epoque/Art Nouveau style for the Love Potion® variants, featuring the amazing artwork of award-winning illustrator Echo Chernik."
I just really don't know if I will be able to make it until I have the monthly sampler in hand, I really don't! Whoever is responsible for bringing us those Star Trek technologies, can you please hurry up with the transporter beam???

All Love Potion Month at Love Potion Magickal Perfumerie!

Where do I begin????? I can't really keep my excitement in check anymore about this, honestly! So, it should be apparent by now who my favorite house of fragrance is. (Hint; Lovepotionperfume.com.) My very favorite perfume line out of Love Potion Magickal Perfumerie is the Love Potion line, & my hands down favorite is
Mara Fox's flagship scent Love Potion perfume. It is the perfect vanilla scent to me, sort of innocent at first with the vanilla being most prominent, but harboring some serious sex appeal with the apricot, patchouli, & amber base. Every variant in the line has that sexy base, fine tuned to accommodate the various permanents & limited editions in the line.

On to my announcement....The house of Love Potion Magical Perfumerie is doing an all Love Potion release set for June! I don't have any info on the notes for the LEs, yet, but I do have a sneak peak on some GORGEOUS artwork. Here it is :
The lovely Mara Fox did drop a hint on her company's message boards that the artwork was indicative of the character of the scents, so I have a couple guesses (even though I'm usually terrible at guessing, lol.)
LP:Ceremony will be an elegant variant with notes of green tea & honey, balanced to perfection. LP:Bittersweet will have notes of dark chocolate giving Love Potion a super foody, yet slightly exotic spin, & LP: Terra Mater will have notes of pumpkin & squash balanced out to make us extra irresistible to the objects of our affections. Again, these are just guesses, but do stay tuned & I will update with scent notes as soon as I'm able! Also, these will go live (i.e. for sale) soon at http://www.lovepotionperfume.com/

Makeup Hacks

I was going over my last post on beauty, & I thought of a few other things that I would've liked to have fit into it. The thing is, these little tricks aren't budget savers per say. They're more along the lines of how to get the most out of your makeup. Other women chuckle at a couple of the things I do, they seem like little quirks, but my little quirks actually do make cosmetics go on better, & make them easier to work with.
Quirk 1. For thicker concealers, thicker eyeshadow primers (think Urban Decay), & mascara; I like to keep the tubes somewhere at body temp. until I need to use them. The easiest place for me to do that is in my bra. I warm up my IT Cosmetics concealer while I'm applying foundation, use it, & then place the next item I want at body temperature in my bra, until I'm ready to use it. This is simple enough & this makes these products much more user friendly.
Quirk 2. Always have a paper towel, napkin, or tissue on hand for blotting/wiping. This is ridiculously easy/obvious, but grabbing something to blot the end of your mascara wand, wipe your powder brushes off with, & wipe the concealer off of your hand with is also something that can be easily forgotten.
Quirk 3. My makeup mirror. It's fancy looking, & it was under $20. I've discounted the necessity for magnification for a long time in my makeup routine, but really a two sided makeup mirror is necessary to get the level of polish I've come to expect from my cosmetics. This goes beyond plucking my brows. Being able to actually see the exact spot I'm placing an individual lash is a must!
Quirk 4. Disposable paint pallets. Love these for my loose powder, loose eye shadows (giving you the side eye, Nyx Ultra Pearl pigments), & various other uses.
Quirk 5. I like my brushes & sponges to be fresh & clean each time that I use them. The exceptions are my eyeshadow brushes. I will get lazy about cleaning those if I'm using the same eyeshadow quad for a couple days in a row. The BEST soap for cleaning my makeup tools, that I have found so far, is Dr. Bronner's tea tree oil liquid castille soap. I love Dr. Bronner's liquid soaps for cleaning my house, myself, & I've even used it for laundry when I ran out of detergent. Anyway, tea tree is oil is fantastic for killing off fungi & bacteria, so that's why I use this variety to wash my face tools with.
Well, I hope there's some useful info to be had in this post,
Blessing, B

Budget Beauty Tricks

I love reading makeup reviews. I have Makeup Alley bookmarked, & I will go there every day, just to see what's what in the cosmetics world at the moment. While I am not a professional makeup artist, I do have years of experience with using cosmetics. Which also means I have had lots of time to figure out what works & what doesn't. I felt inspired to post, after reading all the complaints of the Makeup Alley community about primers "pilling" or "balling." These are otherwise best selling products, that come from high quality brands.  I will tell you what the main culprit is, which will also segue me to talking about today's topic. The problem when you have a product; be it moisturizer, primer, toner, whatever...., that dries to a flaky, balled up, pilled up texture (mess), is that you've applied too much, or that certain ingredients don't play well with others. Example: aloe vera, glycerin, hyaluronic acid or kelp extracts. These ingredients tend to be more of a gel texture, & water based gel textures can leave a film when they dry. If you try to mix that texture with something that is oil or silicone based, the water based product will usually end up balling, & your foundation is not going to glide smoothly over that. Disaster usually happens when the clash of textures isn't apparent until after you've applied your makeup & you have a weird, filthy looking, streaky-clumpy mess on some part of your face. There's an easy fix for this, so you can save your time, money, & gas! Before you return that primer, try this trick. After you've done your morning routine, & waited about 5 minutes for your moisturizer to absorb; spritz your face with some drinking quality water (I drink R/O water, that I get from the Primo station at WalMart). Pat it in for about a minute, apply your primer & give that a minute to set before applying your makeup. I promise there will be no more pilled/balled up makeup messes on your face.
An inexpensive spray bottle, filled with water, is really an easy beauty hack. Example: skin oils are really popular, but they can be greasy and/or expensive. If you spritz your face with water before applying them, you will avoid using too much, & also get the best benefit from them. Set aside all the miracle claims about rosehip seed oil, argan oil, etc., & the main benefit that can be proven is that oil helps seal water into your skin. The more water (i.e. moisture) that your skin can retain, the nicer it looks. The spray bottle is handy to remove wrinkles from clothing, without dragging out the iron. If you spritz your outfit & hang it in the bathroom before you shower, it's super easy to shake any wrinkles out of your clothes before you get dressed. There are a few other ways to use a spray bottle of water, but I have other tricks to discuss.
Trick 1. If you have a hard time applying strip lashes, use a toothpick. Use on side to apply the glue to the eyelash strip, & use the other side to help hold the strip in place while the glue sets. Trick 2. If you dot mascara around your eye area while applying it, or end up with eyeshadow fall-out, or other pigment related mishaps; use a dot of primer on a q-tip to remove it. Trick 3. So you want to do your eye makeup really fancy? Last weekend I did a gold glitter smoky eye, without ending up with eye shadow fallout all over my foundation. Firstly, do your eye makeup before you apply the rest of your face, & second, use scotch tape to mark off your eye area. I learned this trick from a YouTuber & it works without fail. Trick 4. This one is aimed at people who have issues with fragrance disappearing or changing unpleasantly. Monistat Chafing Relief gel is an inexpensive multi-use product. Yes, it is marketed to help with issues of chafing, like from a bra or your thighs rubbing together, but it's also great for a LOT of other things. Also, it's SUPER cheap, like less than $6 (at WalMart) for almost 2 oz, cheap. The main ingredient is dimethicone, which is the main ingredient for a lot of smoothing type products, even hair care, & including $40 an ounce- Smashbox makeup primer. I use Monistat Chafing Relief gel to prevent the irritation I can get from wearing super strength spanx, I use it as a makeup primer, I've met an African-American woman that uses it to straighten her hair, & I also use it as a fragrance primer. If I have a problem with any of my oil-based perfumes changing or disappearing after a very short time of wearing them, I apply very small dabs of  Monistat Chafing Relief gel to my application points & rub it in like lotion.  I give it a minute for my skin to accept it, & then I apply my perfume. This can work with alcohol based, spray-type perfumes as well. The main idea is to block your actual skin from interacting with the perfume for as long as possible, & the dimethicone makes a great barrier. I'm sure there are a million other uses for Monistat Chafing Relief gel & if you know of any that I haven't listed, please tell me in the comments!
Trick 5. Beauty Blogger & YouTube guru Kandee Johnson did a few YouTube tutorials on contouring. If you want an easy way to learn, check out her channel. If you already know what you're doing, but have trouble getting your artistry to last through blowing your nose, sweating, or makeup just tends to disappear on you, try this method. Use cream concealer to contour (L'Oreal's Tru Match concealer sticks are even easier), blend it out, powder to set, then go back over your contoured & highlighted areas with matte bronzer & matte white eyeshadow. You can use setting powder over this as well. Don't worry about looking cakey if you have dry skin, a light of spritz of water from your trusted spray bottle & letting it dry before you do the rest of your makeup, will solve this.
Trick 6. I'm going to go old school here. I've known about this trick for years, but had also forgotten about it for years. Plastic wrap is your friend, people. Plastic wrap is an inexpensive, easy way to shed pounds in your problem areas. You can work out in it, but I'm going to caveat that you should let it get nice & stuck to the area you wrapped before you commence your routine. This wouldn't be an issue for people that drive to a gym, but for people like myself, that workout at home...this is good to know. I would say wrap your problem area, then vacuum or something until the plastic feels nice & stuck to your skin. Also, you don't need to use any fancy creams or anything to speed up the weight loss. Exercise is your friend here, & the weight you lose from exercising while wearing the cling wrap, is much more likely to stay off. You can use the shrink wrap style as an overnight body wrap, but I wouldn't exercise in it. Now, I have a few more hacks, but I'm going to wrap this post up with Trick 7. Lemon water. Skip using diuretics to lose water weight, a much healthier alternative is to keep cut lemons on hand & add them to your water until it tastes like unsweetened lemonade. I've always preferred lemons for my water at restaurants, but an OB/Gyn nurse told me that drinking lemon water would help me shed weight faster, after I had my youngest child. In the meantime, I've also learned that lemon water works like an internal deodorizer. If I'm on a lemon water kick, I won't need to use as much deodorant or feel the need to chew gum. It's also great as a low-cal, caffeine-free energy booster. Another pleasant side effect from drinking lemon water all day, is that the constant (low sugar) consumption of vitamin C & antioxidants from the lemons will keep your skin looking younger, longer.
I've already asked you for any other uses you have for Monistat Chafing Relief gel, but if anyone has other low cost beauty tricks to contribute to my lexicon, please, please, please comment below or message me. If I do a part two, & use your tip, you will be credited :)
